Day 6: Pnom Penh (b)

I couldn’t possibly combine a post about such historical places in the previous post with the normal touristy place we visited today.

In the morning, after we left the hotel at 0930hrs, our tuktuk driver brought us to eat local breakfast. There were two choices: Noodle soup or chicken/pork with rice. The breakfast was served with sweet and sour vegetables and a very nice hot soup. I had coffee with milk which was exceptionally good. Best coffee I ever tasted in the entire trip! No joke.

After the visit at the Choeung Ek’s Genocidal Center, we ate lunch at Tuk Tuk Cafe Restaurant which was just at the street beside the entrance of Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. It was quite pricey, but the food was great! Please, do try local lunch such as Fish/Chicken A Mok or Amok and Pork/Chicken Green Curry. They are must-trys!

We tried looking for dinner walking about 45 minutes around Diamond Island. Please don’t waste your time there. It could be a beautiful place when it’s done with construction, but when I visited it today, it was just nothing! Okay, not nothing. Many local people hang out there. Many places to eat filled with local people. The music was loud and the lighting at the restaurants was either too dim or too bright. Nearby was a modern mall, which I didn’t take note of the name, with famour shops like Montblanc and Cartier. There was also a casino filled people, including children. There wasn’t any security checks.

Then we walked all the way back, passed our hotel and walked along Preah Sisowath Quay beside the Tonle Sap river. We saw the Royal Palace along the road. Further was cafes, pubs and restaurants. Our tuktuk driver even called the road Pub Street, because that’s where tourist spend their time at night. But the place wasn’t as crowded as the one in Siem Reap. We ate dinner at a chinese restaurant and walked back to our hotel.

Well, our last night in Phnom Penh spent nicely. It’s been quite tiring after walking and feeling mostly emotional today. It’s time to rest to have a blast visiting and shopping at the Russian and Central market tomorrow!
